Mengembalikan Default Windows 7 File Extension Types
Salah satu kelemahan Windows 7 adalah dapat meng-asosiasikan sebuah file extension dengan lebih dari satu program. Sebagai contoh anda dapat mengeksekusi sebuah file ber-ekstensi “.exe” dengan program Winamp atau program lain yang terinstall di computer anda, akibatnya Windows akan selalu meng-eksekusi semua file yang berekstensi “.exe” dengan sebuah program tertentu yang seharusnya bukan program tersebut sebagai eksekutornya.
Jika sudah demikian maka saat computer anda pertama kali hidup dan melakukan start up, maka semua program start up (program yang otomatis berjalan saat computer pertama kali hidup seperti anti virus, driver, dan sebagainya) akan langsung di-eksekusi oleh sebuah program tertentu, jika eksekutor “.exe” tersebut adalah Winamp maka akan muncul jendela Winamp banyak sekali sebanyak jumlah program start up anda. Begitupun setelah selesai start up, setiap program yang anda buka yang keluar justru jendela Winamp.
*kesel kan.. kalau mau ngetik tugas atau laporan pekerjaan menggunakan Microsoft Word tapi yang keluar justru Winamp, memangnya mau denger music. Hha..
Hal ini terjadi biasanya karena anda salah memilih default program untuk ekstensi file tersebut gara-gara salah klik kanan. Misalnya file ber-ekstensi “.exe” kemudian anda klik kanan – open with – tanpa sengaja anda memilih program yang salah, dan tanpa sengaja menjadikan program tersebut sebagai default eksekutor file ber-ekstensi “.exe”.
Tenang saja, kita dapat mengembalikan default program untuk sebuah ekstensi file dengan merubah Registry Windows ke default atau aslinya.

DivXPlayer is a good free program to install that does support playing this file extension. This download will set this file extension back to the default unassociated state in Windows 7.

Caranya:
- silakan download menggunakan computer yang normal registry default untuk ekstensi file yang anda inginkan
- ekstrak file yang telah di-download,
- copy file hasil ekstrak (yang ber-ekstensi ".reg") ke flashdisk atau media yang lain,
- doble klik file yang di copy tadi di computer yang bermasalah
- Restart. Biasanya default program akan kembali normal, dan program start up anda akan berjalan semestinya
Jika yang bermasalah bukan file yang ber-ekstensi “.exe” anda dapat mengembalikan ke default dengan cara: Control Panel, Programs, Default Programs, Set Associations, kemudian sesuaikan.
